A driver told me when he went to pick up his bus that an inspector was waiting for him. He told the driver his green road score was too high and to keep it under 50. Pish, I say. No conclusions or recommendations can possibly be made to drivers about their driving based on these scores. It is a waste our time. And who came up with the arbitrary 50 points cut off? The whole thing reeks of PISH and is a needless distraction. If they want fuel efficiency, then get properly maintained fuel efficient buses. If they want fewer insurance claims, sort out timetables and properly train the staff. But no, cheaper to stick a black box and some flashing lights in the cab. Grrrrrrrrr. I've heard a few guys (who just happened to have a score above 50) say they had a "GreenRoad observer" on their bus to monitor their driving.

 Re: 'drivegreen'
I reckon this is a very dangerous system, (this is Linlithgow btw). See, it doesn't work properly in the Geminis and Eclipses. You can be driving in a straight line at 20 mph and get a flashing amber. you can pull away from the bus stop and get a flashing red. ( These things actually happen btw, no joke.)
So, the driver is so angry, so pissed off and so, "what the fuck was that for?", that they are in no way concentrating on the road 100%.
It's the case now where handing over a bus, the first question is "What's the drive green like?". And that is so wrong.

 Re: 'drivegreen'
Yeah, same at larbert, altho our eclipses are pretty spot on with it. I give it 5 mins, if its sensative as fuck i just drive to how i see fit, if it looks like it sorta works, i just slow right down and run late. Ive had a greenroad observer on my bus, (a driving instructor) and all you gotta do is slow right down

 Re: 'drivegreen'
I get the impression that this system is a distraction, and if a driver ia distracted by wee green amber red lights, then it has to go,if your eyes are looking to see your in the green, then when you hit a car,or worse a member of the public then your in the shit, and at some point in time a driver if hes any sense will use that excuse after a bump, and do everyone a big favour

Thats the one. I had acceleration lights, braking lights and revving lights simultaneously whilst stationary once... very reliable.

Yeah but unfortunately I didn't have the guitar you play it with. Could have got quite a score while sitting in traffic.

 Re: 'drivegreen'
This system looks stupid and is a big waste of money. From what I've heard (and read!) is highly inaccurate and unreliable. Typical of the type of system introduced by profit conscious management graduates -- once it looks good on paper, is good for the public image then who cares if the drivers want it.
They said on the video that it's to "help you improve your driving". So if it only tells you what you've done wrong and not what you've done right -- how do you improve your driving accordingly? Seems to me that the management at First fell into the trap of the salesmans technical garble (like when you go to PC World and the salesman just throws a load of random bullshit technical terms at you).
If they "reward" drivers with the best improvement record, what happens if you're in the red constantly? Do they sack you? Back to the training school?
They said they wanted driver feedback on the system -- tell them to shove it sideways!

 Re: 'drivegreen'
I have just started with First Bus....and have been out this week type training.
This has been my first experience with "drivegreen" and i am not impressed. I have been pulled up for being "in the red" despite never seeing the light move from green on the buses i have driven this week.
The trainer who has been out with me all week has said that there is nothing at all wrong with my driving, and is as confused as i am about why it keeps recording me as "in the red". I have been out today in the training bus for well over an hour and got 1 flashing amber (little too sharp on the brakes at some lights) and the rest of the drive it stayed green......will have to see what the computer says on Monday!
I am a little worried about it to be honest, it can't be creating a good impression in my first week!

You don`t want to be worrying about some flashing lights especially when you are just getting used to the job. My advice is not to be too paranoid about the drivegreen and just concentrate on giving a good service first of all. You will know without looking at the lights on the dashboard if you are driving badly because the moaning passengers will soon let you know.

 Re: 'drivegreen'
Aye dont worry about the lights. Sounds like they are just trying to make their mark on you as your a new start, and it affects their whole depot score. Ive been pulled in a few times, just get told to slow down, but my bus is 99% of the time on time, where as the so called "elite" drivers are always mega late.
